Relaxing Ideas

I’d like to begin this blog by introducing you to some of the ways I relax after experiencing a stressful day. I want to let you know that when I first began doing stress management workshops, my clients would ask me about the different methods of relaxation and how to obtain the items that I demonstrated and talked about. That being said, we started the e-commerce business and began exploring and testing different state-of-the-art high quality products to promote rest and relaxation. Here is one of my favorites that you might want to try for yourself:
- Aromatherapy: this is the use of pure essential oils from fragrant plants to evoke different moods and remedies for different illnesses. For example, a very popular essential oil used in aromatherapy is lavender. Aromatherapy essential oils are made up of many different particles and minute natural chemicals. These natural chemicals (turpenes, phenols, etc.) once absorbed in the body via the mucous membranes of the nose or via massage into the skin will effect or limbic system. This is the mood or pleasure center of our brain. I don’t want to get too tech on you, but want you to understand that there really is a science to this whole thing. I have an idea! What is Stress and what Stresses you out?

The degree of stress we feel is directly related to a few things:
- our vulnerability to stress
- how we perceive the stress
- our past experience with a particular stressor.
Vulnerability means, the degree to which we can handle, physically and mentally particular types of stress. At times we are more vulnerable to stress. What makes us more vulnerable is our own illnesses, losses, changes in circumstances and events in our lives. When we have something going on in our lives, like the loss of a loved one, or the change of a job, etc. This is considered a high stress event, that makes us more vulnerable to every day stress, like loosing the keys or getting stuck in traffic. Normally, we might be able to handle that just fine, but because of the high stress events, we are just not able to handle the smaller stressors.
Perception to stress is a key to just how stressed out we individually get to a certain stressful event. For example, what stresses you out, may not stress me out. And what stresses me, may not stress you. It is all about how we “see” the stress entering our lives.
Past Experiences are also very important in how stressed we get over certain events. If for example a stressful event has occurred in the past and we were successful in handling it, we may not be so stressed out the next time it occurs.
What is vitally important is recognizing our stressors, understanding them and analyzing them in terms of minimizing that particular stress. Stress will always be with us in life, but we can minimize it and we can minimize the devastating effects by developing a relaxation plan and sticking to it.
